The Spiral Garden
San Diego, California
The spiral garden was designed for two research scientists. The design played with the idea of the golden ratio and a Fibonacci spiral. The wall follows a spiral pattern but is broken in spots to allow the garden to enter into the pattern. The wall height starts at a few inches above grade and gradients to a height of 30” that allows for informal seating. The plantings comprise two gardens.
The morning garden receives bright sunlight most of the day and utilizes hot colors such as yellows, oranges and reds. The evening garden is bathed in the gentle soft light of early evening and is comprised
of cool blue grays, lavenders and silver hues. |
